Have you ever wondered how to save your friends status on android WhatsApp without any app? Then this short text is for you.

WhatsApp story/status is no longer news. The Snapchat story-like feature is already trending. You share your images and short videos with friends and the same time, watch clips from friends which get deleted automatically after 24 hours. You can save WhatsApp status videos using some tricks. Follow the method below to download your friends’ WhatsApp status, this works on Android. iOS 10 or iOS 11 users can also make use of these tips. However, the privacy of your friends must be respected. Use at your own ‘peril’.

There are apps to help you save status videos and images but this short text is concerned with doing it manually without the help apps full of annoying adverts.

WhatsApp saves the status files (photos/videos) locally on the phone. But these files are erased after 24 hours. So, what you can do is to copy/move them out of the temporary folder and save them to a safe location. Here’s how:

TOOL: To access the file, you will need a file manager app. Most phones (like from Samsung, LG, Sony, Xiaomi, and OnePlus) have it installed by default. Find it by looking for an app named “Files” or “File Manager”. If there is none you can download and use Solid Explorer

First, tap on one of your friend’s status, the status photo/video gets downloaded to “.Statuses” folder (Tested on Android Lollipop/marshmallow/Nougat Device).

Note: The Statuses folder is usually Hidden and can be seen only when you turn on the “Show hidden files” which is available in certain File managers.

*Open your File Manager app – Files, File Manager, Solid Explorer; etc.
* Enable “show hidden files”. You need to open the settings of your file manager and set it to show hidden files.
*Navigate to the WhatsApp folder – Internal storage > WhatsApp > Media > .Statuses.
*Copy the photos/videos which you want to save.
*Paste them into a different folder.
You have that fine picture of friend/ family, but remember to respect Privacy of people *wink*
